Obituary of Jean Wasko

Jean Wozniak Wasko, 82, of Old Forge, entered eternal rest Thursday at Geisinger South, Wilkes Barre.  Her beloved husband, Michael, died August 22, 1996.

 

Born in Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice Kuzmiak Wozniak.  Jean was a graduate of Old Forge High School Class of 1953   and furthered her education at Lackawanna Business College.  Throughout her life, she worked in the garment industry working for Lackawanna Pants, and Hyde Grade Pants, Taylor and retired from Topps Chewing Gum, Duryea.  She was a life long faithful and dedicated parishioner of St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, Old Forge, where she held the office of trustee and treasurer for many years; was also a member of the Ladies Club and St. Michael’s Society.  Jean was always there to lend a helping hand at all the church functions.  She enjoyed cooking, traveling, eating good food and spending time with her family.  Jean was an avid New York Yankees, the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders and the Minnesota Vikings fan.

 

Surviving is a son Michael, Old Forge; a daughter, Sandra Vilchock and her husband Jaye, Nottingham, NH; three grandchildren, Jaye Vilchock and his wife, Celina, Phala Vilchock and Michael Wasko; four great grandchildren; a brother, William Wozniak, New Port Richie, FL; nieces and nephews.

 

A brother, Maxie Wozniak Sr. preceded her in death.

 

Family and friends are invited to attend Jean’s funeral which will begin on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor, followed by services at 10 am in St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, 512 Summer St. Old Forge by the Rev. Peter Henry, rector.  Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Old Forge.  Friends may call Sunday 2 to 5 pm.  Parastas services will be at 4:30 pm.
