The Mattey Family, My condolences to your family on the passing of Father Mattey. My parents, Ann and Bob Koester, both passed in the last 18 months, were very good friends of Father. He would visit them when they lived in Scranton and when they moved to Carlisle, Pa. Father Mattey would make a point to stop for lunch on his way to retreat at Mount St. Mary’s. I always stopped to say hello to him and kept in touch with a note or phone call. My parents cherished his friendship. May he Rest In Peace.

Father Mattey was the best. We are better people for having the opportunity to call him our friend. He will be missed. He was a true priest.

We would like to extend our condolences to the family of Father Mattey. We met Fr. Mattey over 20 years ago through a mutual friend at his parish in Taylor. We enjoyed dinner together when he came to visit us in Binghamton. Our first Christmas card every year was from Fr. Mattey and we will miss his annual cards. He was a fine man who undoubtedly made his family proud. R.I.P.

We so enjoyed our yearly lunch dates with Father Mattey. He was quite a character. We would meet him at Bob Evans in Wilkesbarre and nowhere else! We always had a good laugh. He knew more about what was going on in Freeland than we did and that is our church!
We will miss him and we’re sure he’s in heaven having a good laugh!
