Obituary of David J. Owens

David J. Owens, 85, of Scranton, formerly of Taylor, died Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center.  His beloved wife, Sally A. Hefferon Owens, died March 31, 1998.

 

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late David J. and Josephine Schmidt Owens.  Dave proudly served our country with the US Army during the Korean War. During this time, he was stationed in Germany, and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.  For twenty-three years, he worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue as an enforcement officer.  Dave enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing golf and was active in politics, serving as the Taylor Democratic Party Chairmen for many years. He was a member of the Taylor American Legion, Post 306 and a former member of the Taylor Lions Club.

 

Surviving is a son, James and wife, Karen, Covington Township; a daughter, Cindy Ogonosky and husband, Ed, Wilkes-Barre; three grandchildren, Nicole Klapat and husband, Alan; Andrea Rudaski and husband, Walter and Matthew Ogonosky and wife, Shannon; three great grandchildren, Max and Dexter Marek and Joseph Rudaski, nieces and nephews.

 

A sister, Dorothy Kapelan and a brother, Robert Owens preceded him in death.

 

Family and friends are invited to attend Dave’s funeral which will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor with service by the Rev. Dan Jones. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.  Friends may call Monday 4 to 7 p.m.
