Obituary of Robert Joseph Uscowskas
Robert Joseph Uscowskas, 88, of Taylor, died Monday at the home of his daughter in Turbotville. His beloved wife, the former Dolores Markowski, died June 4, 1996 and together they celebrated 38 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jessie Smith Uscowskas. He proudly served our country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. During this time, he was stationed aboard the USS Wisconsin, BB-64 and was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. In 1990, Bob retired from the Pennsylvania State Police, where he had 35 years of service. He was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church, West Scranton, where he sang in the choir and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7069, Clarks Summit and the American Legion Kosciuszko Post 207, West Scranton. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling, his true enjoyment was his dedication to his family and friends.
Surviving are a son, Robert Gregory and wife, Peggy, Clarks Summit; two daughters, Dianne Maxwell and husband, Steve, York; and Linda Dalykas and husband, George, Turbotville; four grandchildren, Jill Hicks and husband, Derrick; Jason and Jena Dalykas and Sarah Crawford; a great-grandson, Lee Robert Hicks; a brother, Albert and wife, Donna, Springville; his companion of 23 years, Leona Gable Juba, Taylor; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 8:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in SS. Peter and Paul Church, 1309 W. Locust St., Scranton. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery with State Police and military honors by the VFW Post 4712, Simpson.
Friends may call Friday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. The American Legion will conduct a memorial service at 5 p.m.
