Obituary of Betty J. Eiden
Betty J. Kalenick Eiden, 79, of Taylor, died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Born and educated in Taylor, daughter of the late Peter and Irene Markovitch Kalenick, Betty had a gift to make friends everywhere she went which led her to a successful career as a butcher at Acme Markets for 35 years. During her stay at Allied Services, Betty was appreciative of the kindness of the staff and many residents that quickly became her friends.
She co-owned and operated Langans’ Bar in Scranton.
She was a lover of animals and showed it by supporting area shelters. She loved to talk about the pets she had in her lifetime to include Persian cats, a South African squirrel monkey (Timmy), her dog (Gizmo) and a ferret. Nothing seemed to make her happier than spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are two sons, James J. and wife, Donna, Shavertown; and Jeffrey and companion, Robin Davies, Scranton; three grandchildren, Jaida, Jason and Ryan; a great-grandson, Jahsier; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard, in 1968; a granddaughter, Jennifer Eiden; three sisters, Mary Mercurio, Irene Kozlowski and Ann Bittenbender; two brothers; John Michaylo and William Kalenick; and her life partner, Patrick J. Langan.
