Obituary of Sophie Markowich
Sophie Mozol Markowich, 87, of Old Forge entered eternal rest Friday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Her beloved husband, Daniel died in 1990.
Born in Old Forge, she was the daughter Metrofan and Tatiana Hubiak Mozol. Sophie graduated from Old Forge High School in 1948 and was a graduate of Colonial Airline School, Kansas City, MO. Sophie was employed by Alleghany Airlines, Avoca, the Casey Hotel and Revello’s Café, Old Forge. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Stephen’s Russian Orthodox Church, Old Forge, where she sang in their choir. Every Friday, she enjoyed going out for pizza with her brothers and baking cakes for her many dear friends.

Surviving are two sisters, Pauline DiMattia, with whom Sophie resided the past two years and Elizabeth Giorgio, Dunmore; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nicholas and John.
Family and friends are invited to attend Sophie’s funeral which will be held on Wednesday at 10 am in St. Stephen’s Russian Orthodox Church, Hickory St. Old Forge by the Rev. German Ciuba. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Orthodox Cemetery, Old Forge. Friends may call Tuesday 5-7 at the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor. Panachida services will be at 6:30 PM.
