Obituary of Anna Herbert Budwell

Anna Herbert Budwell, 96, formerly from Old Forge, passed away Monday peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she resided since 2009.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Frank Budwell.

Born in Carbondale, December 21, 1921, Anna was one of five daughters born to Peter and Rose Herbert of Simpson.  She was a 1939 graduate of Fell Township High School.   In 1946 she married WWII Army veteran, Joe Budwell, also known as Cy.  They had a daughter, Laura, in 1948.  Throughout the years, Anna had a series of factory jobs including making cigars, Christmas trees and wreaths.

 In 1956, the family moved to Tonawanda, NY, where her husband was employed at the Chevrolet plant.   Anna worked in a box factory.  She later wired motors at Western Electric and made plastic tubing for dialysis machines. When she wasn’t working, Anna could be found in her garden, busy orchestrating the blooming of a multitude of flowers throughout the seasons.  She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Church in Niagara Falls, where she supported the parish by crocheting items for church bazaars and making perogies.

After her husband passed in 1978, Anna moved to Old Forge where she worked at Hygrade Pants, Taylor.  She loved being near her sisters again and participating in family activities.  Anna’s hobbies included reading, crocheting, and putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Laura Macmillan, and her husband, James; several step-children including Tracy Macmillan, Lauri Johnson, Amy Johnson, and Emily Macmillan; a sister, Rosalie Fives and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Zrowka, Evelyn Zurko and Delores Zavacky.

Family and friends are invited to attend Ann’s Funeral, which will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in The Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, 175 ST. Tikhons Road, Waymart, PA.  Family and Friends may call Friday 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Burial will follow at St. Tikhon's Monastary Cemetery, 175 St. Tikhon's Road, Waymart, PA.
