Obituary of Michael Peregrim

Michael Peregrim, Sr., 80, of South Scranton passed away Sunday morning at the Gardens at Scranton.  He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Shedler Peregrim whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2017.

Born in Old Forge on June 14, 1938 he was the son of the late Michael J. and Elizabeth Conon Peregrim.

After graduating from Old Forge High School in 1955 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of Scranton in 1959. While at the university, he was awarded a commission as a second lieutenant and served two years in the army. He completed two years of graduate studies in the Russian language at Northwestern University and Indiana University.

Michael was a teacher of Russian and French at the former Central High School for 35 years. He served as an adjunct professor of French and Russian at the University of Scranton, Marywood, and Wilkes University.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtic Games.

Along with his wife he is also survived by two sons, Michael Jr. and wife Tara, and David both of Scranton; daughter Pamela Thomas and husband Dave, of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren Michael E., Mia, and Colin; aunt, Mary Shrive, of Old Forge; several cousins.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Michael’s funeral Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Church, 512 Summer St. Old Forge, PA 18518 to be celebrated by Michael’s pastor, Rev. Peter Henry. Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor, PA 18517 with Parastas services beginning at 7:30p.m.
