Obituary of John L. Fortuna

John L. Fortuna, 68, formerly of Wales Street, North Scranton, died Thursday evening at the Meadows Care Center after an illness.

Born June 14, 1949, son of the late Louis and Anna Secoolish Fortuna, he graduated from Scranton Technical High School and served his country with the Air Force. A lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Cathedral, Polish National Catholic Church.  He last worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, Scranton as a clerk, he then devoted his life to caring for his late mother and father.  One of John’s greatest joys was the arts; in his younger days he saw many Broadway productions both locally and in New York City, where he was able to meet many of the performers. He was a faithful season ticket holder of the Scranton Cultural Center.

Surviving are three aunts and an uncle, Rose Krenitsky, Helen Lukasiewicz; John Fortuna and wife, Margaret; Catherine Korgeski and husband, John, all of Taylor; and many loving cousins.

He was also preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts, uncles and cousins.

John’s family would like to offer their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides and chaplains at the Meadows Care Center, especially David and Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Erin for their exceptional care they provided.

Family and friends are invited to attend John’s funeral service on Wednesday, February 28th  at 11:00 a.m. in the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor with the Rev. Janusz A. Lucarz, St. Stanislaus Cathedral, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, 9 to 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity in memory of John.
