Obituary of Joseph C. Siemion
Joseph C. Siemion, 97, of the Minooka section of Scranton, died Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife the former Cecilia Gontarz, died March 19, 1999.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Helen Zalewski Siemion. Joe proudly served our country during WWII with the US Army. He was a parishioner of St. Paul Of the Cross parish. Joe was a life member of the DAV, Dickson City and the American Legion Post 948. Throughout his life, he enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and was an avid Yankee fan.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph J. and wife, Patricia and Richard, all of Scranton; Thomas and wife, Sally, Dunmore; three daughters, Diane Basila, Dunmore; Carol Shimo and husband, Frank, Scranton and Patricia Naro, Taylor; 13 grandchildren, Joseph Jr. and wife, Erin, Jennifer Kovelski and husband, Bill, Nicole Nick and husband, Ray, Thomas Siemion, Rebecca Cortazar and husband, Bruce, Michelle Siemion, Michael Yager and wife, Nicole, Brian Siemion, Patrick Yager and wife, Amanda, Kathleen and Jeffrey Siemion and Frankie and Nicholas Shimo; 2 great grandchildren, Evan and Ethan Cortazar; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, George Basila; two grandchildren; a brother, Anthony and two sisters, Genevieve Yaworski and Loretta Kozlowski.
The Siemion family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Willow Brook for their excellent care given to their father the past three years.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave by the Rev. Scott Sterowski. Interment with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
