Obituary of George David Beecham

George D. Beecham, 96, a lifelong resident of Taylor, died Saturday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. His beloved wife of 60 years, the former Catherine Jones, died Feb. 14, 2005.

Born in Taylor, he was the son of the late George D. and Lovada Dobbs Beecham. He proudly served our country during WWII with the Army Air Force attaining the rank of corporal. George graduated from Johnson Technical School and Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, W.Va. In 1982, he retired from Chrysler Corporation, where he was a quality control engineer. After retirement, George was a devoted funeral assistant for the Semian Funeral Home, Taylor, where he treated everyone with the utmost compassion and love. 

He was a member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church, Taylor American Legion, Post 306, Taylor; the Corinthian Lodge #104 Free and Accepted Masons, Fairfield, Conn.; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry-Valley of Scranton and the United Auto Workers Union. His family was the center of his life and he looked forward to their visits.

Surviving are two sons, George D. and wife, Jacqueline, Supply, N.C.; and Wm. Lee and wife, Andrea, Taylor; five grandchildren, Amy Quinto and husband, Colonel Michael; Christen Zipf and husband, Erik; Brian Beecham and wife, Tara; Brett Beecham and David Beecham and wife, Renee; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; including a very favorite niece, Phyllis Heilman, from California, has been a faithful, loving family member to her Uncle George.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Gabriel; and a brother, Jack Beecham.

Family and friends are invited to attend George’s funeral, which will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, with services by his cousin, the Rev. Mark Heiner, First Baptist Church, Coraopolis. Interment, Forest Home Cemetery, Taylor.  

Friends may call Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m.
