Obituary of Michael Mashurak

Michael Mashurak, 97, of Dunmore, passed into eternal rest Thursday evening at home. Surviving is his loving wife, Marge Enkulenko Mashurak. The couple would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary Jan. 15.

Born in Aliquippa and raised in the Patch section of Taylor, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Susan Michaylo Mashurak. He attended Taylor High School and then served with the Army during WWII as a radio operator. Michael was the proud founder and owner of Mashurak Fence Company, Dunmore, which he operated for 65 years along with his late son Michael Jr. A consummate businessman, he treated his many customers with the upmost respect and fairness. He was a founding member of St. George’s Orthodox Church, Taylor, and was instrumental in the building of St. George’s Recreational Center, a former board member and trustee during the construction of the present church facility on Keyser Avenue and the church’s Social Club. He had a great love for the game of golf, being a longtime member of Elmhurst Country Club, serving two terms as president, and served as past chairman and committeeman on both the Course, Grounds and Bylaws Committees. Mike was past president of the Dunmore Lions Club and a member of Scranton Elks Club. Mike’s greatest joy was his loving family.

Also surviving are a daughter, Marsha Kolis and husband, Paul, Taylor; sister-in-law, Marie Mashurak, Taylor; a granddaughter, Megan Kolis, Taylor, who was the light of his life; two additional grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Mashurak Jr., in 2005; brothers, John and George; and a sister, Irene Mashurak.
