Obituary of Elizabeth Biondi

Elizabeth “Betty” Mekilo Biondi, 96, of West Scranton, formerly of Taylor passed away Saturday December 9, 2017 at Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis in December 1987.

Born in Taylor she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Surgalla Mekilo. She was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Taylor. In her younger years, she was a member of St Mary's Sodality and Choir. She was a wonderful homemaker and great Mom to her daughters. When she became a grandmother, she absolutely loved being with her granddaughter, Melissa and was so proud of all her accomplishments. In her later years she enjoyed watching NASCAR with her daughter, Tina. Not only did she know about her favorite driver Dale Jr. she also knew about all the other drivers and their families. When it came to football, she always asked which one of the Manning brothers were playing. She was a great cook and baker, her cookies were always delicious and perfect. She loved to sew and could sew anything from making coats to gowns. Betty was one of a kind and loved by all.

She is survived by her care giver and constant companion, daughter Christine Biondi of Scranton, and daughter Mary Beth Bevacqua and husband Joseph of Justus. Granddaughter Melissa Bevacqua and husband Scott Kramer. Several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel J. Kazmierski for his compassionate care of Betty over many years. We are also very grateful for the East 7th floor nurses at Commonwealth Regional Hospital for taking such good care of our Mom.

A private Divine Liturgy was held at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Taylor, celebrated by Rev. Eduard Shestak. Interment Parish Cemetery, Taylor.  Arrangements and care provided by Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor.

In lieu of flowers or food memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 140 Church St. Old Forge 18518.
