Obituary of Recedes R. Pehonich
Recedes R. “Cede” Pehonich, 85, of Taylor, entered into eternal life on Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Born in Duryea, she was the last surviving daughter of the late Anthony and Stella Yablonski Wysocki. In 1951, she graduated from Duryea High School. Until her retirement in 1997, she worked as a machine operator for Hyde Grade Pants, Taylor. Cede was a devoted parishioner of St. George’s Orthodox Church, Taylor and was a member of the altar society and the A.C.R.Y. She had a great devotion to the Kardiotissa, the Mother of God, and faithfully attended the services, every Wednesday for the past six years. Cede was active with her church, lending a helping hand at baking, pinching pirohi’s, making clam chowder, cleaning the church and assisting at the numerous church affairs. In addition to her church, family was important to her and she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Cede was an avid bowler for the St. George’s League and also Breeze Photo mixed league.
Surviving is a daughter, Michelle Rizzo and husband, John, Ellicott City, Maryland; a son, Michael Pehonich and wife, Karen, Scranton; a grandson, Michael A. Pehonich and wife, Brittany; her goddaughter, Judy Kappmeier; numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Carol Ameika, Regina Salidis, Stella Zubey and Antoinette Resavy.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. George’s Orthodox Church 743 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor 18517.
Family and friends are invited to attend Cedes’ funeral which will begin on Monday at 8:45 am from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 am in St. George’s Orthodox Church, by the Very Rev. Mark Leasure. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2-5 pm. Parastas service will be at 3:30 pm.
