Obituary of Ronald W. Gieski

Ronald W. Gieski, 85, of Dickson City, died Friday afternoon at his home.  He is survived by his wife Frances C. Ferraro and together they celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary Smith Gieski.  In 1951, he graduated from West Scranton High School.  Ron proudly served our country with the US Marine’s during the Korean War, where he was decorated with the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal the Good Conduct Medal and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.  Prior to his retirement, he worked for the University of Scranton for 35 years as the captain of public service.  He was a parishioner of Mary Mother of God Parish, North Scranton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Walter and wife, Denise, Montrose; and Robert and wife, Susan, Jackson, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A son, Ronald J. preceded him in death, on Augsut 10, 2009.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ron’s Memorial Mass which will be held on Friday, November 17, at 9:30 am at Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton.
