Tami Kester

Obituary of Tami Kania Kester

Tami Kania Kester, 43, of Taylor, died Tuesday at her home.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter the late Edward V. “Buddy” Kania, former mayor of Old Forge, and Maryrose Angeli Ryba and her husband, Tony, Pittston. Tami was a 1991 graduate of Bishop Hannon High School and she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Marywood University. Before her illness, she worked for Health and Human Services as a case worker. She was a parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton.
Living with M.S. for years, Tami’s battle with cancer was faced with calm dignity and incredible determination. Her day to day battle was truly heroic. She remained a brave and kind-hearted woman even through her final months. Tami’s life would seem short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. She has given us all the reminder of the preciousness of life.
Our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli who offered his not only expert medical advice but taught her the difference between fact and faith.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Joseph R. Kester III, Old Forge; a sister, Joy Riviello and her husband, Robert, Dalton; a niece, Julia; a step-mother, Cynthia J. Kenosky Kania, Old Forge; aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. She is also survived by her loving cats, particularly her dear Lucy, who gave her many years of unmitigated love and support.

Preceeded in death by paternal grandparents, Edward and Jean Zelazny Kania, maternal grandparents, Anthony and Matilda Genell Angeli.

Family and friends are invited to attend Tami’s funeral, which will begin on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, pastor. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411.
