Obituary of Frank J, Kania
Frank J. Kania, 96, of Moosic, died Sunday September 10, 2017 at home. His beloved wife, the former Helen P. Lovenduski, died Feb. 25, 2010.
Born and educated in Moosic, he was the son of the late Paul and Alexandra Jachinski Kania. An Army veteran, Frank proudly served our country during World War II as a military policeman and was decorated with the Good conduct medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Campaign Medal with one bronze star. Frank was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church, Moosic. Following the consolidation of his parish, he became a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton. Before his retirement, Frank worked as a welder for the former Scranton Casket Co. Throughout the years, he spent a great deal of time outdoors, fishing, hunting and taking walks to Montage Mountain. He was known as Uncle Frank to many and will be remembered for his pigeon racing, where he was accored many first place trophies, including the race clocks.
Surviving are a sister, Stella Dalbo, who was his devoted caregiver for 10 years, Moosic.
Family was truly important to Frank and he cherished every moment he spent with his numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
He was also preceded in death by siblings, Peter, Joseph, Walter, Josephine and Mary Kania, Caroline Verchuk, Sophie Glogowski, Bridget Lipisko, Frances Symuleski and Celia Sklanka.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, pastor. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Czestochowa, Cemetery.
