Obituary of Joseph S. Fetchina

Joseph S. Fetchina entered into eternal rest with his family by his side on Tuesday at the Mid Valley Health Care Center, Peckville. He is survived by his devoted wife Dorothy Morosky and together they have celebrated 68 years of marriage. Born in Mayfield, he was the son of the late Simeon and Dora Soroka Fetchina. In 1942, Joe graduated from Olyphant High School. Before retirement, he worked for Jerry Sports Center, Montdale. Joe was a lifelong parishioner of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Olyphant, where he was the choir director for more than 50 years. Joe was very devoted to his church and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He enjoyed gardening, watching sports, especially baseball and his favorite team was the New York Yankees. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Matushka Kyra F. Nightingale and her husband, the Rev. John, South Abington Twp. and Tamara F. Persing and her husband, James, Lewisburg; two grandchildren, Johanna Persing, Arlington, VA. and William Persing, New York City; a sister-in-law, Vera Fetchina, Jackson, N.J.; nieces and nephews. The Fetchina Family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at Mid Valley Health Care Center and to Dr. Nicholas Dodge for his exceptional care throughout the years. Two brothers, Basil and Eugene preceded him in death. Family and friends are invited to attend Joseph's funeral which will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 600 E. Lackawanna Ave., Olyphant, by the Very Rev. Vladimir Fetcho. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the church. Panachida services will be Friday at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church 305 Gravity Ave, Olyphant, 18447. Arrangements are entrusted to the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor.
