Obituary of John J. Serwinski
John J. Serwinski, 84, of Taylor, passed away peacefully on Monday surrounded by family at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janalee Lanphear Serwinski.
John was born in Scranton, Sept. 21, 1932, the only child of the late Caroline Mazurick. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He served honorably in the Air Force during the Korean War. Following the war, John continued his education at the University of Delaware, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics.
Prior to retirement, John was employed by General Motors, Delaware, and a sales representative for Dutch Boy Paints and Equipment Marketers-Maytag, New Jersey. John's interests included golfing, fishing, bowling, RV travel, billiards and word games. He especially loved spending time with his cat, Mitzi. He had a "unique" sense of humor and enjoyed sharing it with everyone.
John struggled with dementia and Alzheimer's disease for the past eight years. The family would like to thank the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, Griswold Care Givers, and Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and staff for their compassionate care and support of John during this time.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Hamilton and husband, Brian, Drexel Hill; Kathleen Stocksdale, Claymont, Del.; Susan Breitmeyer and husband, Scott, West Chester. He was preceded in death by his son, John Serwinski Jr. His stepchildren are Kelly Roman and husband, Thomas, Jefferson Twp.; Laurel Sebastianelli and husband, Louis, Moosic; Robert Aldrich and wife, Gina, Moosic; and Dana Archer and husband, Darren, Jenkins Twp.
Grandchildren include Jon (Eva), Lauren, Brock and Kati; stepgrandchildren are Ryan (Stephanie), Robert III (Stephanie), Morgan, Kaycee, Nicholas, Jacob, Kyle and Logan; great-grandchildren are Sophia and Landon; stepgreat-grandson, Elliott; brother-in-law, Les Lanphear and Gloria; nephews, Daniel, Bradley, Kyle; niece, Alicia; and great-nephews; cousin, Richard Dunkailo and wife, Sheila and family.
John will be greatly missed. Private memorial service will be held by the family.
