Obituary of Richard Powell

Richard Powell, 69, a life long resident of Taylor, died Monday afternoon at Mercy Hospital. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, the former Helen Sislo. Born February 6, 1941, in Scranton, he was a son of the late John and Edith Anderson Powell. Richard was a graduate of Taylor High School, Class of 1958 and proudly served our country in the US Navy with the USS Ticonderoga. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the American Legion Post 306, Taylor. He was a long time independent truck driver and recently retired from Cardinal Logistics. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be greatly missed. Richard was extremely proud of all his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their many basketball, baseball, soccer and bowling events. Also surviving are a son Richard and wife Jacqueline, daughters Kim Kirby and husband Jeff, Faith Saldi, and husband Larry, all of Taylor. Grandchildren, Danielle, Natalie, Brianna Powell, Ryan and Corey Kirby, Kirsten Weidlich and Kiarra Saldi. Brother Edward Powell, Delaware. He was preceded in death by brothers Jack & Kenneth and sisters Phoebe, Margaret and Audrey. His funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor with services at 11:00 a.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Ave. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
