Obituary of Dorothy Ownes Kapelan

Dorothy Owens Kapelan, of Moosic, died Wednesday evening at her home. Her faithful and devoted husband, Walter of 62 years, survives her. Born in Scranton, on May 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late David John and Josephine Schmidt Owens. For many years, she worked for Mass Feeding, Moosic and for the former Irene D's, Taylor. Her family was the center of her life and Dorothy enjoyed working side by side with her husband at the ice cream stand in Taylor and their many family endeavors. Throughout the years, she loved to do ceramics, play the organ, work in her garden and go on family camping trips. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Taylor. Her kindness and goodness will remain in the hearts of her family for many years to come. Also surviving is a son, Walter Kapelanovich Jr. and wife, Gloria, Taylor; a daughter, Debi Kapelan, Thornhurst; three grandchildren, Lei Anne Piccoletti and husband, Robert, Wade Kapelanovich and companion, Jennifer and Dana Lyn Kapelanovich, all of Taylor; Three Great Grandchildren; a brother, David Owens Jr., Olyphant; a cousin, who was like a sister, Shirley Ferrari, Hazelton; Nieces and Nephews A brother Robert Owens preceded her in death. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Hospice Community Care, especially Liz and Laurie for their love, comfort and care they gave to Dorothy and her family during her illness. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor with services by the Rev. Dr. David Erickson. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.
