Obituary of Edward Korpita

Edward Korpita, a life long resident of Taylor, died Sunday evening at Allied Skilled Nursing Center. His wife the former Mary Fotta died April 20, 1996. Born on January 15, 1920 in Taylor, he was the son of the late George and Olga Labanich Korpita and served our country with the US Army during WWII. Edward retired from the Riverside School District and for over fifty years was self-employed working for Larry's Cleaners, Duryea and Supreme Laundry. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Taylor. His family was the center of his life and he enjoyed their family gatherings. He was a member of the Taylor Golf Association and had two holes in one at Pine Hills Golf Course, Taylor. Ed was a kind and gentle man, who always took the time to listen, shares ideas, keep in touch with many dear friends and express concern with the many people he met throughout the years. Surviving is a son Thomas E., Wilkes-Barre; a brother Honorable George and wife, Anne, Wharton, NJ; six sisters, Margaret Lally, Egg Harbor Twp., NJ; Marion Savinelli and Olga Korpita of both Taylor; Anna Gable and husband, Joseph, Webster, NY; Pat Oliver, Taylor and Catherine Franus and husband, Daniel, Egg Harbor, NJ; Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Four brothers, John, Theodore, Joseph and Michael and a nephew, Attorney George Francis preceded him in death. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor followed by Divine Liturgy at 10: 30 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Oak St., Taylor, by the Rev. Gary Mensinger, pastor. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 5-8. Parastas services will be at 6:30.pm.
