Obituary of James C. Martin

James C. 'Scooter" Martin Jr., of West Scranton, died Sunday in the inpatient unit of VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. His devoted wife of 53 years on August 3, the former Shirley A. Kaub survives him. Born on February 22, 1928, in Carbondale, he was the son of the late James C. and Barbara Skelton Martin. On September 5, 1950, Jim was one of the first draftees since the Korean War to be inducted into the Army from Scranton. He faithfully served our country and attained the rank of corporal. Jim worked as a truck driver for the former A&P and Echenbach & Rogers and part-time for Jay's Office Equipment. He was a faithful parishioner and usher at St. Patrick's Church. The most important thing in his life was his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. Jim enjoyed people, taking the time to chat and helping his friends. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the nursing staff of VNA Hospice for their care and compassion they extended to Jim. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo Davis, Taylor; Sally Ann Moyer, Clarks Summit; a son James C. III and wife, Brenda, Clarks Summit; four grandchildren, Bradley and Gregory Moyer, Clarks Summit, Kyle Davis, Taylor and James Martin, Clarks Summit; and many friends. A brother, Donald and two sisters, Helen Flannery and Betty Ann Nicholas, preceded him in death. The funeral will be Thursday at 8:45.a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson Street. Interment with military honors will take place in Abington Hills Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 5-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 712 S.
