Obituary of Michael Cherewka

Michael Cherewka, 87, of Taylor, died Wednesday afternoon at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years the former Ann Regan. Born in Taylor on August 1, 1923, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Kachmar Cherewka, graduated from Taylor High School and honorably served our country with the US Navy during WWII, receiving the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good conduct Ribbon and the Victory Medal. In 1953, he graduated from the University of Scranton. For 33 years, Mickey worked for Tobyhanna Army Depot as a management analyst. He was a life long faithful member of St. George's Orthodox Church, Taylor and served as its auditor for many years. Also surviving are two sons, Attorney Michael and wife, Michelle, Camp Hill and their children, Michael, Matthew and Megan; Dr. Mark and wife, Sandy, Mechanicsburg and their children, Alexis, Christopher and Brian; Nieces and nephews. Four sisters, Mary Morohovech Hoover, Helen Semion, Anna Petrunich and Sue Barany preceded him in death. The funeral will be Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. in St. George's Orthodox Church, 743 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor, by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Mark Leasure. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
