Obituary of Madeline Kucz

Madeline Purawic Kucz, 83, of West Scranton, died Tuesday at home. Her husband John S. died February 15, 1988. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Welyczko Purawic and was a 1944 graduate of West Scranton High School. For many years, Madeline worked as a seamstress in the garment industry. She was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, West Scranton, enjoyed singing in the choir, went faithfully each week to help make pierogies and was a member of the St. Mary's Sisterhood. Her family was the center of her life, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she also enjoyed going to the casinos. Surviving are five children, Diane M. Freeman and husband, Paul, Binghamton, NY; Carol Angora, Las Vegas, NV; John S. Kucz and wife, Mary Ann, Scranton; Madeline Farrell and husband, Kevin, Scranton and Shirley Farber and husband, Wayne, Old Forge; Nine grandchildren, Douglas III, Sherry and Chrissi Roberts; Amanda & Daniel Kucz; Kelly Farrell; Heather Sulz; Adam & Steven Farber; three great grandchildren; two great great granchildren a sister Helen Siewiec, Levittown; Many nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters; Ann Sesok, Catherine Gaidula, who were twins and Mary Capp; two brothers, Michael and Frank Purawic. The funeral will be Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor followed by Divine Liturgy ay 9 a.m. in St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, N. Main & Howell Streets, by the Very Rev. Nestor Kowal, pastor. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Taylor. Friends may call Friday 5-8 p.m. Parastas services will be at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Sisterhood at St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, N.
