Obituary of Andrew Dreater

Andrew "Lefty" Dreater, 90, of Scranton, died peacefully at Moses Taylor Hospital. He and his wife, the former Betty Kowalsky would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on August 4th. Born in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Stephen and Irene Pregmon Dreater. He was the owner and operator of Dreater Lumber Company, Taylor, was an expert forester and accomplished artist, who handcrafted custom made furniture and wooden crafts. Andrew was a parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, West Scranton; formally a star baseball pitcher, he also enjoyed music, art, gardening and raising horses. He was a strong yet gentle and generous man, filled with kindness, compassion, daily enthusiasm and a delightful sense of humor. Andy had a strong devotion to his loving wife, family, grandchildren and he maintained a deeply rooted faith in God. Proud of his German- Austrian heritage, he passed many traditions and stories to his children and grandchildren. May his memory be etenal. Also surviving is a son, Stephen Dreater, two daughters, Lois Ann Dreater; Maria Lozada and husband, Robert, two grandchildren, Marisha and Alexander; two brothers, John Dretar and wife, Frances, all of Scranton; Stephen Dreater and wife, Ann Marie, Taylor; two sisters, Ann Magakis Barrowcliff, Taylor; and Delores Dreater, Dickson City; Nieces and Nephews He was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel, Michael, William and George; and three sisters, Julia Lehman, Helen Strosky and Mary Semian Marcinowski. The family would like to thank their long time friend and doctor, Henry C. Yeager M.D., Karen and the staff at Moses Taylor Hospital for their kind and compassionate care they gave to Andrew. The funeral will be Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by services at 9:30 a. m. in Saints Peter and Paul's Russian Orthodox Church, Washburn and Fillmore Streets, by Archpriest Basil Micek, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Pleasant Mount. Friends may call Sunday 3:00-6:00 p.m. Parastas services will be at 5:00 p.m. by Father Basil.
