Obituary of John Sherba

John Sherba, 86, of Old Forge, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital. He is survived by his devoted wife the former Martha Drechin. The couple would have celebrated their 54th wedding Anniversary August 30th. Born on April 17, 1924, in Purtain, he was the son of the late John and Anna Penyak Sherba. John served with the 80th Airborne Anti aircraft Battalion during WWII, received numerous citations and proudly served our country at the Battle of the Bulge. For many years, John lived and worked in New Jersey and returned to Old forge twenty-four years ago. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother and uncle, who will be dearly missed. Also surviving a sister Veronica Samuel, Garner, N.C.; Nieces and Nephews. Three sisters, Anna & Mary Woloshyn, Margaret Samuel and a brother, Michael preceded him in death. His funeral service was held on Friday from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor by the Rev. Donald Valasek, pastor, St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.
