Obituary of Leonard P. McAndrew

Leonard"Mac" McAndrew, 85, formally of Hertz Court, South Scranton, died Sunday evening at the Jewish Home. His wife the former Lucille Duffy died December 19, 1993. Born in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lucy O'Donnell McAndrew. He faithfully served our country during WWII in the US Army. Prior to his retirement, Leonard was the co-owner of Scranton Baker Supply. He was a life long parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Church. For over twenty years, he served as the president of the Southside Little League and was a member of the VFW, Post # 5209. Leonard enjoyed golfing, fishing, the New York Giants and Yankee's. His family was the center of his life and he was a loving father, grandfather , great grandfather, brother and friend to many. The family would like to thank the staff of Allied Terrace Assisted Living, Oakwood Terrace Assisted Living, VNA Hospice, the Jewish Home and Dr. Phillip Boccagno for their care, concern and understanding that they provided to their father during his illness. Surviving are two children, Jane Helcoski and husband, Jack, Jefferson Township; Joseph McAndrew and wife, Daryl, Archbald; four grandchildren, Brad Helcoski, Lynne Murray, Sean and Cody McAndrew; a great grandson, Jack Murray; a brother Thomas McAndrew and wife, Shirley, Scranton; a sister Rita McDonnell, Levittown; many nieces and nephews. A sister Helen Cusick and two brothers John and Joseph preceded him in death. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 11:30 a.m.in St. John Neumann Church, 633 Orchard St., to be celebrated by the Rev. John Ruth. Interment will be private in Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 4-7 at the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor. Family and friends that are attending the mass on Friday are asked to go directly to the church.
