Obituary of Mary Dowhy
Mary Dowhy, of Taylor, died Tuesday afternoon at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. Her husband John died March 26, 1957. Born and educated in Taylor, she was daughter of the late Michael & Anna Pepsin Pehanich. Mary dedicated all her life to her family, who was the center of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Vladimir�(TM)s Ukrainian Catholic Church. Each year, she made the pilgrimage to attend St. Ann�(TM)s Novena and was truly devoted to her and the Mother of Our God. Mary loved to read, quilt, make ceramics and possesses a wonderful collection of Angels. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt thank you to the HCHS, Community Home Health, Bureau of Aging and Hospice Community Care for their care, guidance and comfort they extended to their mom throughout her illness. Surviving are three children, Richard and Marlene Dowhy, who were her caregivers and Patricia Dowhy, Scranton; a sister Irene Granko, Old Forge and many nieces including Carol Granko, who was very special to her, nephews and many dear friends including Mary Bullick. Two brothers, John and Michael Pehanich and a companion of 47 years, John Wasmucky preceded her in death. The funeral will be Saturday at 8; 45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor followed by Divine Liturgy at 9; 30 a.m. in St. Vladimir�(TM)s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 430 N. seventh Ave. to be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Wolensky, pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary�(TM)s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Taylor. Friends may call Friday 4-8. Parastas services will be at 5:30 pm. Rosary recital will be at 6 pm.
