Obituary of John Pehanich

John “Harry” Pehanich, 86, of Scranton, died Sunday at the Gino Merli Veterans Center. His wife the former Mary Lewis died November 29, 2004. Born and educated in Taylor, he was son of the late John and Mary Zatkovich Pehanich. On November 13, 1942, he was inducted to serve our country in the US Navy during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific. For many years, John worked for the former Jack Borgenich Inc. and retired from Lucille Fashions as s pattern maker. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph�(TM)s Lithuanian Church, N. Scranton and the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 11, Dickson City. Uncle Hotty to his family will be remembered for his blueberry and mushroom picking. Every spring, John would plant a garden and share the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at the Gino Merli Veterans Center for their care, love and support they extended to John. Surviving is a daughter Lynn Conrad and husband Paul, Clifford; a sister Irene Jankowski, Scranton; two brothers, Joseph, Scranton; Edward, Taylor; five grandchildren, Ben and Andy Conrad, Johnny Pehanich, Lauren R. Dunleavy and Stacy L. Cognetti; a great granddaughter Paige Conrad; and a daughter-in-law Suzanne Pehanich. Many nieces and nephews. A son John F. on November 8, 2007, a brother Michael Pehonich and three sisters, Helen Rafalko, Mary Schuler and Anna Karabin preceded him in death. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann�(TM)s Basilica. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph�(TM)s Cemetery, Throop.
