Obituary of John Semian

John "Jake' Semian, of Jefferson Twp., died Friday afternoon at home of an apparent heart attack. He is survived by his wife of nearly 17 years, the former Marie Holevinski. Born November 22, 1938, he was son of the late Michael and Anna Matyas Semian. An outstanding center, Jake was recruited out of the 1956 Taylor High School Class by Al Davis, the current owner of the Oakland, Raiders, to play for him at the Citadel, where he spent his early college career. He later transferred to the University of Houston where he was their starting center until graduation in 1961. Jake was best known in our area as the founder of the North Pocono Trojans High School football program, where he coached his teams to two suburban conference championships. Also surviving is a son James, Haslet, TX; a daughter Delores Jeanne Seager, Gilford, NH; six grandchildren, Airforce Airman 1st class Adam J. Seager, Alaska; Victoria Jeanne, James and Thomas Seager, Gilford, NH; and Patrick and Garrett Semian, Haslet, TX; a brother Michael, Ballston Lake, NY; a cousin, nieces, nephews, and all of his friends at Elmhurst Country Club, where he was a member for over thirty years. Following Jake's wishes, he was cremated and their will be no viewing. A celebration of his life will be at later date.
