Obituary of John R. Sekelsky

John R. "Jack" Sekelsky, of Taylor, died Tuesday morning of an apparent heart attack while walking at McDade Park; his wife the former Marie Homko survives him. They celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary Oct. 3, 2009. Born in Jessup, he was son of the late John & Josephine Kurash Sekelsky and a graduate of Jessup High School class of 1963. He served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. For over thirty-five years, he worked as a welder for McGregor Iron Works, Dunmore. Jack loved to fish, hunt, and this Friday he was leaving on a hunting trip to Missouri. He was a parishioner of St. George's Orthodox Church, Taylor and the Timber Hill Hunting Club. Each spring he found tranquility in planting his garden and sharing the fruit of his labor with family and friends. His grandsons were the center of his life and he enjoyed traveling with his wife. Jack will be remembered as a kind and gentle man, who will always there to lend a helping hand. Also surviving are two daughters, Melissa, Taylor; Jaclyn Marie Carrotto and husband Michael, Jessup; two grandsons, Michael Jr. and Ryan John Carrotto; two sisters, Loretta Kaszuba and husband Robert, Justus; Patricia Gregory and husband Robert, Scranton; a sister-in-law Dona Sekelsky, Moscow; Aunts, nieces and nephews. A brother Joseph preceded him in death. His funeral will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor followed by services at 10:00 a.m. in St. George's Orthodox Church, 743 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor to be celebrated by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Mark Leasure, pastor. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
