Obituary of William M. Haduck

William M. Haduck Sr. of Taylor died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Mercy Hospice, Scranton. His wife of 59 years is the former Ann Shebol. Born in Avoca, son of the late Karl and Karolina Haduch, he graduated from Duryea High School, class of 1943, and entered the U.S. Navy where he graduated from the Bainbridge, Md., Naval Hospital Corps School. During World War II he served at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital and at Aiea Heights Naval Hospital at Oahu, Hawaii. He was a Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class. His decorations included the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Overseas Bar and Victory Medal. He was employed as a printer for 33 years at the Scranton Times, retiring in 1987, and was a member of newspaper's 25-Year-Club. Earlier he was a printer for the Vestal, N.Y. News, the Tunkhannock Republican New Age and the Pittston Dispatch. An avid traveler, he and his wife visited Hawaii, Italy, Spain, Morocco, France, Switzerland, Poland, Slovakia, Mexico and England. He enjoyed cruises to the tropics and bus trips and motoring throughout the United States. He loved music, particularly European and Hawaiian, and anything with a backbeat. He enjoyed polka concerts and dances, and was a lively accordion player who often entertained at parties for family and friends. He was a member of St. Ann's Basilica in Scranton. Also surviving are a son, William Jr., and wife Monita; and a daughter, Diane and husband Phillip Kresefski; and four grandchildren, Diana and Phillip Kresefski Jr., and William III, and Casey Haduch, all of Branchburg, N.J. He is also survived by a brother, Chester of Avoca, and a sister, Victoria Tetlak of Dupont. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Edward, Jacob and John, and two sisters, Sally Tadieski and Mary Twardowski. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 from Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Ann's Basilica. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call Friday, 5 to 8.
