Obituary of Joseph A. Grzyboski, Jr.

Joseph A. Grzyboski, Jr.,68, of Moosic died Wednesday, June 20th at Timber Ridge Health Care Center in Wilkes Barre Township after battling a two year illness.  He is survived by the love of his life, wife Theresa Burns Grzyboski of Moosic. Celebrating 43 years of marriage on May 31st.  

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Tessie Szczypkowski Grzyboski, Sr.  A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Technology and Transportation Engineering, Joe began his career with Bellante, Clausse, Miller and Nolan, and followed by serving the City of Scranton as Traffic Engineer until 1988 when he and his wife opened their first retail train store in downtown Scranton; a business they began in 1977 following the birth of their oldest son.  Joe was a leader in the industry of Lionel Trains and respected by all who knew him. Joe continued to work the business during his illness with Theresa and their sons.  He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Czestochowa until its closing in 2009 where he helped lead the procession escorting the portrait of St. Mary of Czestochowa Black Madonna to the newly formed Divine Mercy Parish.  He served on the St. Mary’s Festival Committee and Divine Mercy’s Finance Committee.  He was a Coach for the Minooka Babe Ruth League and Moosic ASA Missy League softball as his kids grew.  He was a charter member of the Glenmaura National Golf Club, a board member of Glenmaura’s Design Review Board, a member of the LOTS, LCCA and TCA train organizations.  Joe also attained the rank of Eagle Scout.  Joe enjoyed Penn State Football, the former Baltimore Colts, making puzzles with Theresa and most especially spending time with his family.  
The Grzyboski Family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Nicholas Chiumento and the staff of Geisinger Medical Group, Moosic, the PCU at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, and the Short-Term Rehabilitation staff at Timber Ridge for their compassion and care given to Joe.  

Also surviving are his three children, daughter, Christina, sons Joseph (Joe) III and wife, Karen, and Jeremy; three grandchildren, Jordan Grzyboski-Kelly, Lindsay Rose and Joseph “Joey” Grzyboski IV, all of Moosic.  He is also survived by his siblings, Ann Marie Herie and husband Al, Richard Grzyboski, Sr. and wife Charlotte, and Robert Grzyboski, Sr. and wife Marge. Several sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, two great nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to his devoted family, Joe is survived by his faithful companion, his German Shepherd, Bandit.

Family and friends are invited to attend Joe’s funeral which will be Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., celebrated by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, pastor. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.  Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
